Unilock Construction in Anaheim, CA | Square Deal Contractors
Square Deal Contractors provides independent Unilock paver installation and repair across Anaheim, from 92801 to 92808. We’re not an authorized Unilock dealer, and we don’t pretend to be. What we are is a full-scope general contractor that has torn out, reset, and installed Unilock Brussels Block, Universal, and Beacon Hill pavers on Anaheim slabs, driveways, patios, and walkways for years. If your Unilock surface is lipping, rutting, or washing out, call us at (866) 623-7205 and we’ll tell you what’s actually going on under the pavers.
Why Anaheim Residents Choose Us for Unilock Service
Unilock makes a solid paver. But a paver is only as good as the base it sits on, and Anaheim’s older tract lots have a way of testing that base. The 1950s and 60s single-story homes that dominate 92801, 92804, 92805, and 92806 were built on slab foundations over native soil that was never engineered to carry a modern paver driveway. When you lay Unilock pavers over that without correcting the sub-base, you get exactly the failures we get called to fix: settlement, lippage, edge spalling, and joint sand that disappears after the first winter rain. If you need Fullerton Unilock service, we handle the same sub-base issues there.
We read Unilock’s own spec sheets for the Universal and Brussels systems, and we build to them. Nolan Breckett, our owner, grew up in South Orange County and has spent decades tearing into exactly these kinds of problems. He’d rather show you the compacted aggregate going in than hand you a brochure. Know what you’re getting into before the first nail goes in. That applies to pavers too.
We also operate as a true general contractor, which matters more than most people expect. A driveway tear-out often involves the garage slab lip, a retaining edge against the house, drainage away from the foundation, and sometimes a panel or repipe question that surfaces once we’re in the ground. We can handle all of it under one contract instead of sending you to three different subs. See our Unilock sales & service page for the full scope of what we cover.

Common Unilock Construction Problems We Solve in Anaheim
- Efflorescence and salt bloom on gray Brussels and Universal pavers. Anaheim’s semi-arid climate swings between dry Santa Ana wind events and winter rain. Unsealed cementitious pavers cycle wet-dry, and the calcium hydroxide inside migrates to the surface as white powder. We see it most on gray Brussels Driveway units in 92801 and 92805. It’s usually cosmetic, but if it’s coupled with spalling, you have a moisture retention problem in the base, not just a surface stain.
- Polymeric joint sand washing out or cracking. This is the single most common Unilock driveway failure we see in 92801 through 92806. The paver field looks fine, but the joints are empty and weeds are coming through. The cause, almost every time, is a sub-base compacted over an old slab or clay-heavy native soil instead of a proper aggregate base. Sand can’t hold what’s moving underneath it.
- Edge spalling and corner chips at driveway aprons. Where the driveway meets the curb or the sidewalk, pavers get hit by repeated vehicle loads. If the edge restraint wasn’t installed or wasn’t pinned down, the outside course shifts and corners break off. We replace the damaged units with new Unilock units of the same profile and reset the restraint properly.
- Settlement and lippage over tree roots and old utility trenches. Post-WWII Anaheim tract lots are full of old sewer laterals, irrigation lines, and mature street trees whose roots reach under driveways. When the ground settles or a root heaves, the pavers don’t move together. You get a tripping hazard and a paver field that looks like a topo map. We pull the affected area, correct the base, and reset the same pavers whenever they’re still sound.
- Pavers laid too tight against the curb without a restrained edge. This one’s specific to Anaheim’s older neighborhoods where the original concrete driveway didn’t have much separation from the street. When a paver field butts directly against the curb line with no expansion or restraint, the outside edge takes the brunt of every turn-in and starts to migrate. That’s a slow failure that gets worse every year.
Unilock Service in Anaheim: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s something people don’t think about until a paver job is already scheduled. Anaheim issues its own building permits through the City’s building division, not the county. That means the rules around staging, dumpster placement, and construction hours in the 92802 and 92805 flats near the Resort District and Angel Stadium are Anaheim-specific. You can’t just drop a dumpster on the street during an Angels game or a Disneyland fireworks night and expect it to sit there unbothered. Event-day traffic and noise curfews near the Resort District dictate when deliveries can arrive and when crews can run a plate compactor. We’ve had a two-day paver tear-out on an Anaheim driveway stretch into a third day purely because the delivery window for clean aggregate was blocked by stadium traffic. We schedule around it now. For paver work in the Anaheim service area, that local scheduling knowledge is the difference between a job that finishes on time and one that doesn’t.
Unilock Models & Products We Service in Anaheim
We install and repair the Unilock lines most common in Orange County: Brussels Block, including Brussels Dimensional and Brussels Fullnose for driveways and borders; Universal Pavers, both the smooth and textured lines; Beacon Hill smooth-face pavers; and the Sierra and Richcliff textured wall and paver units. We also provide Placentia Unilock service using these same product lines. For repairs, we use Unilock’s own matching units and edge restraints wherever the profile is still in production. If a field of Brussels Dimensional needs six replacement units and the color lot has shifted over 15 years, we’ll pull from the least-visible section of the same field and put the new units where they won’t stand out. For base material, geogrid, and polymeric sand, we use compatible aftermarket products where the OEM add-on doesn’t change performance. If the failure is a base problem under an otherwise-sound paver field, we re-set the same pavers on a corrected base. We don’t sell full replacements when a repair is the honest answer.

AfterUnilock Service Pricing in Anaheim
Paver pricing in Anaheim tracks with the local market and the scope of base correction involved. A straight re-set over a failed sand bed costs less than a full tear-out with new aggregate base, edge restraint, and reinstallation. Here’s what we quote in the Anaheim flatlands and surrounding areas:
| Service | Price Range |
|---|---|
| Paver Driveway Installation | $7,000 – $18,000 |
| Paver Patio Installation | $3,500 – $11,000 |
| Driveway Replacement | $5,000 – $14,000 |
What drives the number is the base. If we’re pulling out 2 inches of sand over native clay and replacing it with 6 to 8 inches of compacted aggregate, that’s labor and material you need to pay for once and never again. A free estimate from us includes a walk of the existing surface, a look at the edges and drainage, and a written line-item quote. Call (866) 623-7205 to schedule yours.

FAQs – Unilock Construction in Anaheim
Usually yes. Brussels Block profiles like the Dimensional and Fullnose are still in production, and we stock the most common Anaheim color blends for small repair runs. If the existing field has 15 or 20 years of UV fading, we’ll source the closest current lot and blend the new units into a low-visibility section, then shift the older units to the visible field so the patch doesn’t show.
That’s efflorescence, and it’s common on gray Brussels and Universal pavers in Anaheim’s wet-dry climate. Water enters the paver, dissolves calcium hydroxide in the cement, and carries it to the surface where it dries white. It’s normally cosmetic and weathers away over time, but if it keeps coming back, the base is holding water against the underside of the pavers. That’s a drainage problem, not a paver problem. Call (866) 623-7205 if you’re seeing the same bloom return after every rain.
Yes. Anaheim’s native clay expands when wet and shrinks when dry, and it doesn’t drain. If you lay pavers on top of compacted clay with only a thin sand setting bed, the first Santa Ana dry spell will pull moisture out of the clay and the pavers will shift. A proper Anaheim paver base is 6 to 8 inches of crushed aggregate, compacted in lifts, with a geotextile separator between the aggregate and the native clay. The same base standards apply to our Unilock repair in Orange. That’s the detail most cheaper bids skip, and it’s the detail that determines whether the driveway lasts 5 years or 25.
Yes, but it requires scheduling. In the 92802 and 92805 flats near Disneyland and Angel Stadium, dumpster placement and material deliveries have to work around event-day traffic and the City’s noise curfew. We coordinate permits and delivery windows with the City’s building division before we mobilize, and we stage materials on the property whenever the driveway width and setbacks allow. It adds a little planning time. What it doesn’t add is a citation or a blocked street on a fireworks night.
For most Anaheim homeowners, yes, if the base is done right. Pavers handle the clay soil movement better than a monolithic slab because they move as individual units and can be reset. A concrete driveway that cracks over clay heave gets saw-cut and patched, and the patch never matches. A paver field that shifts gets the affected area lifted, the base corrected, and the same pavers reinstalled. The paver option costs more up front, typically $7,000 to $18,000 for a standard Anaheim driveway, but you’re buying a surface that can be repaired instead of replaced.
